What exactly do you get for $149?
The Mini is Starlink's backpack-sized dish with the router built in, roughly a third the size of the standard kit. In the box, per Starlink's support documentation: the dish, a kickstand, a pipe adapter and flat mount, a 15-meter DC cable, and a power supply. Setup is plug-in-and-point; there is no separate router to wire.
The $149 is hardware only. You must add a Roam service plan: 100GB for $55 a month, 300GB for $80, or Unlimited for $175 (all verified on starlink.com today). The capped tiers drop to low-speed data once you use the allotment; all three work anywhere in the US and Canada, and Unlimited adds international coverage in 160-plus countries. Starlink's checkout currently promises a 30-day trial and delivery within two to three weeks.
Who should buy the Mini at $149?
- Travelers, RVers and van-lifers. This is what the Mini is for: it fits in a backpack, works in motion with Roam plans, and sets up in minutes at each stop.
- Backup-internet buyers. If your cable or fiber goes down a few times a year, a $149 dish plus a $55 plan you can pause between trips is cheap insurance.
- People who move often. Renters and seasonal residents can take it with them; no installation, no contract.
Who should skip it: anyone needing unlimited data at a fixed address. Roam 100GB or 300GB caps will frustrate a streaming household, and Roam Unlimited at $175 costs more than Residential. For a home, the standard kit with a Residential plan (from $55 a month, see our plans guide) is the right tool.
Why is it so cheap right now?
Two plausible reasons, one confirmed and one reported. On SpaceX's Q3 earnings call last week, CFO Bret Johnsen said the company "strategically managed our channel distribution to prioritize delivery of kits to retail channels ahead of the holiday season, which we expect will lead to increased activations in Q4" (via PCMag). Separately, outlets tracking the deal note Elon Musk teased a next-generation Mini in June, and read the discount as clearing first-generation inventory; Starlink has not confirmed a Mini 2, so treat that as informed speculation.
Price history tells the story: the Mini launched at $599 in June 2024, hit $229 for holiday 2025, $199 this January, and $149 on October 2. Retailers like Best Buy and Home Depot were still listing it around $249 in early October, so buying direct is where the deal is.
What catches should you know before checkout?
- The price can vary by address. Starlink shows "starts at" pricing and applies a one-time demand surcharge in some high-demand areas; your checkout page is the final word.
- The referral reward only works on starlink.com. Buying from a retailer forfeits it. Order direct through our referral link and you and the site owner get the same reward, paid as cash or service credit after two months of subscription (Starlink's US example is $100; the amount shown in your Starlink account is what counts).
- Installments cost the same. Twelve payments of $12.41 total $148.92, two cents less than paying upfront, with a credit check per the checkout's financing disclosure.
Frequently asked questions
How much is the Starlink Mini right now?
$149 on starlink.com, verified on October 26, 2026, or $12.41 a month for 12 months ($148.92 total). Starlink lists $249 as the typical price and gives no end date for the offer. A Roam service plan is required.
What plan do I need with the Starlink Mini?
A Roam plan: 100GB for $55 a month, 300GB for $80, or Unlimited for $175. The capped plans drop to low-speed data after the high-speed allotment is used.
Is the Starlink Mini good for home internet?
It works, but it is not the right tool: Roam plans cap high-speed data below what most households use, and Roam Unlimited costs more than Residential. Fixed homes should get the standard kit with a Residential plan.
Is the Starlink Mini cheaper at Best Buy or Home Depot?
No. In early October, retailers listed the Mini around $249, about $100 above starlink.com, and retail purchases do not qualify for the referral reward.
Will there be a Starlink Mini 2?
Elon Musk teased a next-generation Mini in June 2026, but SpaceX has not announced a product or date. Some analysts read the $149 discount as inventory clearing ahead of a new model; that is speculation, not confirmation.
