Short answer If you want satellite internet at home in the US right now, Starlink is the only low-earth-orbit service you can actually order. Plans run $55 to $130 a month. Amazon Leo (formerly Kuiper) says it will open to consumers later in 2026 but has no public prices. OneWeb and Telesat Lightspeed are business and government networks, not home plans.

Eutelsat OneWeb: global design, sold through partners

OneWeb's orbits cover the whole planet, including the poles. Whether you can buy service in a given country depends on local licenses and partners.

Telesat designed Lightspeed for global coverage, including polar regions. It is not in commercial service yet.

Which satellite internet is best for a home right now?

Starlink. It is the only low-earth-orbit option with consumer plans, and it has no contract. Where cable, fiber or fixed wireless exists, those are usually cheaper and steadier.

Is Starlink the only real satellite internet option for homes in 2026?

For a home in the US today, Starlink is the only low-earth-orbit service you can order and receive. Amazon Leo (formerly Project Kuiper) is in enterprise beta and says consumer service starts later in 2026. OneWeb and Telesat Lightspeed are aimed at businesses, governments and airlines. Older geostationary providers such as Hughesnet and Viasat are still available but slower, with higher latency.

How much does Starlink cost per month in 2026?

US Residential plans are $55 (up to 100 Mbps), $85 (up to 200 Mbps) and $130 per month (Residential Max), after a June 2026 increase. Hardware is $349 to buy, or $0 upfront with a $10 monthly rental in some areas. Roam plans for travel are $55, $80 or $175. Prices vary by address, so check starlink.com for yours.

When will Amazon Leo (Kuiper) be available to consumers?

Amazon has said consumer service will begin later in 2026, after earlier saying mid-2026. It had launched nearly 400 satellites by late September 2026 and started an enterprise beta on April 8, 2026. No consumer pricing has been published. Expect limited geographies at first.

Can I use OneWeb for home internet?

Not directly. Eutelsat OneWeb sells through partners to enterprise, government, maritime and aviation customers. About 650 satellites orbit at roughly 1,200 km, and Eutelsat ordered 229 more satellites in September 2026, but there is no consumer plan you can sign up for.

When does Telesat Lightspeed launch?

Telesat plans to launch its first two production satellites in December 2026 and begin global commercial service around spring 2028. It targets enterprise and government customers, not households.
